Apple.com vs. Microsoft.com - Website Usability Comparison

How do you design a website for an international brand with a broad and complex product offering and reams of information? I found an interesting blog post about this very thing on Webdesigner Depot and I'm posting the link because I think you might find it interesting and informative.

Apple vs. Microsoft - A Website Usability Study discusses both sites and compares their effectiveness in seven categories from homepage to aesthetics.

The different business focuses for Apple and Microsoft affect how each company has developed its web presence. According to the blog post, Apple's consumer oriented brand gives the company's website an edge because of it's focused messaging.

I'm curious to hear your thoughts?

You hit the nail on the head with the point about focus. As I mentioned earlier, looking at the myriad of Microsoft sites and legacy designed subsites reminds me of sitting in a cubicle in the late 90s. Not unified, therefore left behind..
