eMail Marketing for 2009

It's that time of year again when we take a moment to reflect on the trends of the old year and look forward to what's coming in the new.

One trend that we believe will continue to grow in importance, especially in this climate of economic uncertainty, is the role of email marketing.

Cost-effective, brand-centric and measurable, eMarketing/email marketing/online marketing is a smart way to stretch tight marketing budgets.

Here are some quick tips to get the most from your eMarketing campaign:

  • Develop a publishing schedule and stick to it
  • Provide value to your subscriber base with information that is informative, useful and creates an incentive for further action
  • Use a call-to-action to drive traffic to your website
  • Build your brand through enews styling, branded language and key messages – extend your brand through this network
  • Track your newsletter as a campaign in Google Analytics

Don't think of eMarketing as a replacement for traditional advertising, rather think of it as an opportunity to develop a new kind of relationship with your customers, suppliers and brand stakeholders.

eMarketing's primary advantage is its measurability. Being able to track how many subscribers have opened your message, which articles they read and whether or not they unsubscribe from your list provides you, the content publisher, with invaluable marketing data.

A great resource for information on eMarketing is Marketing Sherpa. The site offers a huge amount of data and strategy tips to get the most from your marketing campaign. General information is offered for free, with more detailed and comprehensive info available via a site subscription. If you're building an online marketing programme the subscription is definitely worth it.
